Swisscom claims to have transmitted some 22 million messages, Sunrise 17 million, and Orange 15.6 million. This Christmas some 54.7 million SMSs and MMSs were sent from portable phones across Switzerland, 10.2 million more than for the same period in 2004. Swisscom says that 11.9 million messages were sent on Saturday and 10.1 million on Sunday. The country’s 3 telecommunication’s companies are banking on a tidal wave of cell phone messages over New Year’s Eve.
