The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, Geneva offers an exhibition “Gaza at the crossroad of civilizations”, available till 7 October 2007. Nowadays the territory of the Gaza Strip is known for tragic events, but actually the land has lots of treasures of archaeological importance. This was not only an important port at the outlet of the Incense Route, but a territory involved in Pharaonic, Assyrian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic history. The exhibition at the Museum displays numerous aspects of Gaza history, with various civilizations inhabiting it at different periods of time. The exhibition is a part of the UNESCO-sanctioned project aimed to create an archaeological museum on the territory.
