January 29th to February 4th there will be The 35th Prix de Lausanne – an international competition for young dancers taking place at Théâtre de Beaulieu in Geneva. The competition is open for boys and girls of all nationalities aged 15 to 18, who haven’t become professionals yet. Even though the event is only available in a week’s time, it is already known that the number of applications has broken all records this year – thee are no less than 138 girls willing to participate as well as 30 boys from 33 countries. The candidates were chosen basing on the videos that they sent to the jury, chaired by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Artistic Director at the North Carolina Dance Theatre in Charlotte (USA). The aim of the competition is really of great importance: it will define which of the participants have chances to become successful dancers in future. There were 46 girls and 19 boys of 25 different nationalities chosen for the Lausanne performance already, whereas the final stage takes place on February 4th.
