If you are not afraid of winter cold, you can participate in Coupe de Noël – the annual swimming competition that will be held December 17th this year. It was first held in 1934 and initially, the competition took place between the two bridges that span the River Rhône and involved the 125-metre distance. However, at that time to make the race more secure the starting and ending points shifted along to the quay of the Jardin Anglais within the Rade of Lake Geneva. This year, the competition will be taking place at the Quai Général-Guisan. At this time of the year, the water temperature is usually about 4-5 degrees celsius (which is 40-42 degrees Fahrenheit) while the temperature of the air is about minus 10 and 10 degrees celsius (that’s 10 to 50 degrees fahrenheit). To participate, you have to be more than 13 years old, although there is no maximum threshold in age. For instance, during the previous years the age varied from 13 and 82.
