One of the Swiss holidays celebrated in Geneva in December is called Escalade which tells us the story of important historical events with a special focus on some quirky episodes. First celebrated to mark the victory over the Duke of Savoy, it is a grandeur and merry holiday which presents various demonstrations, music performances, tours and more. Today the Swiss people treat it as the day of solidarity. During the holiday, you can see the costumed parade and enjoy the magnificence of the elaborate Old Town streets. And as this is a historic event, there will also be special demonstrations held (including the demonstration of the period weapons). Moreover, this is the only date when Passage Monetier – the narrow path that leads to the remains of the Roman fortifications, is opened to the public. Another event is the bonfire erected on the Cour Saint-Pierre and the tasting of the historically known soup of Mere Royaume and the mulled wine.
