Tourists can safely swim in the Lake Léman (sometimes called lake Geneva) as, according to the The International Commission for the Protection of the Léman’s Waters, CIPEL, the water at 3 out of 4 beaches is very clean, and only at the fourth beach it is relatively clean. The commission also added that the water is absolutely safe for swimming, however, there are some problems with several beaches. Those are: Pointe-à-la Bise in Collonge-Bellerive Geneva, Rive-Bleue in Port-Valais, and Séchex in Anthy-sur-Léman France, which may be partly polluted, so diving is not allowed at them. The optimistic news is that over the last 15 years, water quality has dramatically improved in the Léman. The commission believes that the improvements are due to efforts by water treatment plants that cleaned up their acts.
