In the Annemasse, French suburb of Geneva, 2 high schools were blocked in solidarity with the wave of protests that has swept through France. Young people around the country have occupied official buildings and blocked trains and highways to protest against the government’s plan to create more ’flexible’ employment for young people: the now notorious ’Contrat Premiere Embauche’ (CPE). The demonstrations that started last week in Annemasse were expected to continue this week. In solidarity with young people, the SNCF, the French national railway company, has also announced several strikes that should last until Wednesday morning. Most TGV trains between Geneva and the South of France have been cancelled. The Swiss railways strongly advise that passengers heading for France consult their travel agents before setting out.
