Amnesty International launched a campaign against domestic violence on Tuesday, the day before World Women’s Day. A bus traveled around six different cantons to raise awareness about the issue until next October. The NGO aims to put pressure on authorities so that they take the issue more seriously. Woman in charge of the campaign, Stella Jegher, explains that domestic violence is often not considered to be a violation of human rights and its gravity is often undermined. Amnesty says that in Switzerland about 40 women are killed by domestic violence every year. Tens of thousands of women are killed worldwide every year by men in their households.
