From a meteorological point of view, the coldest winter in 21 years just ended on Tuesday. Temperatures during the last months have consecutively remained 1 or 2 degrees lower than average. One has to go all the way back to the winter of 1984/85 to find such low average temperatures. Meteorologists warn that a serious cold spell should hit the region some time next week. Furthermore, Geneva covered in snow on Wednesday morning that caused chaos amongst commuters in the city. Although most main arteries were quickly cleared, many country roads and parts of the highway suffered from winter’s latest blast. The public transportation company, TPG, said that some of their buses were up to 40 minutes late. Spokesman, Eric Grandjean, for Geneva’s cantonal police explained that many accidents had been reported. It seems that the airport was unaffected by the snowfall.
