Geneva’s hotels had some 7% more guests in 2005 than the year before, according to Geneve Tourisme. «2005 had the best results in the last five years», the local tourism organization says. It seems that the city has surfed on the same wave as the rest of the world’s tourism, benefiting from the low costs of air travel and improved tourist confidence. Moreover, the strong value of the Euro has made Switzerland more competitive than other European destinations. Geneve Tourisme hopes that the trend will continue into 2006. According to research from the BAK Economic Institute, tourism brings in some 2.5 billion CHF into Geneva. Tourism employs some 18,000 people in Geneva.
