The conflict surrounding some not-so-flattering cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten has finally reached French-speaking Switzerland. On one hand, Geneva mosque supposedly deplored that freedom of expression offended and humiliated the Arab world. The local mosque questioned, «whether it was backward to ask for the right to be respected.» But Geneva scholar Tariq Ramadan, called for moderation. Ramadan explained that both Arabs and Europeans should show more wisdom on this issue. The world-renowned intellectual supposedly said that the Arab world should learn how to be a little more critical. Many local newspapers criticized some of the reactions in the Muslim world. The paper «le Temps» showed one of the cartoons and called on the Muslims to adapt to the contemporary world. «24 Heures» published two of the cartoons on Thursday and said that «everything could be joked about, even god.»
