The public transportation company of lake Leman, the CGN, looks like it has decided to add a high-speed boat to its fleet. The company’s CEO, Luc-Antoine Baehni, announced that the board of directors was determined to lease a high-speed cruiser with room for about 100 passengers. He explained that the ship would go into service during the summer of 2007 and would travel at a speed of 50 km/h, which is twice the current speed of CGN boats. The company’s CEO said that many other countries already use this kind of boat to transport commuters. It seems that the high-speed cruiser’s first route will be to link Nyon, in the canton of Vaud, with Chens-sur-Leman and Yvoire in France. The craft’s estimated cost is of 2.5 million francs. Many other lines are planned if the endeavor proves to be successful, such as connecting Thonon, in France, with Lausanne, Morges, and Geneva.
