Geneva authorities are studying the possibilities of keeping many small border crossings closed until 8:30 every morning to prevent commuters from clogging up of roads in neighboring villages. The measure could affect the crossings of Landecy, Certoux, and Soral I and II. Christophe Genoud from the cantonal government explains that the experimental measure aims to encourage commuters to use the Bardonnex crossing, where the canton has recently added a third lane to improve the flow of traffic. During the last couple of years, villagers have become increasingly furious because commuters have flooded their country roads to sidestep the regular traffic jams at the main crossing in Bardonnex.
